Real Estate Scams and Scoundrels

Real Estate Scams and Scoundrels

Real estate fraud poses a significant threat to both consumers and professionals. Common schemes—including title fraud, rental scams, wire fraud, straw buyer schemes, and fraudulent flipping—have resulted in billions of dollars in losses annually. Despite regulatory safeguards, fraudsters continuously adapt, exploiting gaps in industry practices and technological vulnerabilities.

This is a 4-hour CE elective course designed to bridge these knowledge gaps by:

    • Providing historical and contemporary case studies that illustrate common fraud schemes and emerging threats
    • Training licensees to recognize red flags and suspicious activities in transactions.
    • Reinforcing the importance of adherence to real estate laws, ethical guidelines, and best practices.
    • Offering practical strategies for fraud prevention, including cybersecurity measures, verification protocols, and due diligence procedures.
